This probably helps to explain my dislike of history growing up. Throughout most of my life I have disliked the subject of history and found it to be boring and biased due to the fact that it is usually written by a man and almost exclusively about men.

Sadly, only in college did I start reading different literature and other works written by women. The Victorian Debate About Gender was interesting and thought provoking for me. I also have an interest in the study of 19th century literature and culture, so this collection of texts really captured my attention.

I researched her life, wrote a brief biography of her, wrote an essay about her, and did a presentation on her life to my class. In college I have conducted research on 19th century women and have written multiple essays using the feminist theory on literary works from the 19th century.

I look up to these women and hope to become women writers and authors like them some day. Not only do I have an interest in the study of gender from the 19th century, but I can also relate personally to the work because of its relevance in my life.
